Description

Rare Raspberry Red Beryl (also sometimes called Bixbite) with Bixbyites – Location: Thomas Range Juab Co. Utah. Thumbnail (see photo for more details). Here we have an attractive and rare specimen of a tabular raspberry red beryl crystal and some bixbyite crystals on a topaz crystal from the Thomas Range in Utah. When it comes to red beryl Utah is the ?place?. Red beryl was first discovered and described by Maynard Bixby from the Thomas Range (type locality) in the late 1890s. By the way Maynard Bixby also first discovered and described bixbyite from this same locale. The beryl has a pink color which is different from the ?normal? dark red color that usually characterizes the red beryl from the Thomas Range and the beryl crystal is well-formed and sharp. Several sharp bixbyites are attached to the beryl.
