Red Beryl (Rosette, ‘Rose’) Thomas Range, Juab Co., Utah. Thumbnail (see photo for more details). Here we have a great specimen of a tabular red beryl crystal showing the ‘rosette’ habit (similar to hematite roses). This specimen was collected by us from one of the several mines that we own and operated in the Thomas Range. Although the beryl crystal is not really large enough to cut a stone from, the crystal is somewhat ‘gemmy’ to translucent. The beryl crystal is a dark red color and is well-formed and sharp with a good luster. The Thomas range is the Dana locality for red beryl, which was first discovered and described from here by Maynard Bixby in the late 1890’s.
