Garnet Var. Spessartine & Minor Sanadine Feldspar with Bixbyites (Direct Mine source) – Location: Thomas Range Juab Co. Utah. Thumbnail (see photo for more details). Here we have an a great crystal of spessartine garnet along with some small but gemmy colorless sanadine feldspar crystals form the Thomas Range. The garnet crystal is well formed and sharp and has a dark reddish-brown color along with a glassy luster. While garnet crystals are fairly widely distributed throughout the entire range euhedral (sharply formed with glassy faces) garnet crystals are relatively rare and seldom exceed ? inch in diameter. The garnet crystals from the Thomas rage are a mixture of almandine and spessartine with a dominance of spessartine.
