Description
Red Beryl & Bixbyite (Direct Mine source) ? Location: Thomas Range (Topaz Mountain) Juab Co. Utah. Thumbnail (see photo for more details). When it comes to red beryl Utah is the place. Red beryl was first discovered and described by Maynard Bixby from the Thomas Range (type locality) in the late 1890s. By the way Maynard Bixby also first discovered and described bixbyite from the Thomas Range. Here we have an attractive combination of these two rare and unusual minerals. First let me just say that the combination of these two minerals (on the same specimen) is extremely rare. The beryl crystal is well-formed and sharp and the color of the beryl is a raspberry pink color and is gemmy in areas to translucent in other areas. There is a small bixbyite cube (unmodified) growing on the surface of the red beryl.
